Weischer – New initiatives in sustainability
THE MEDIA AGENCY WEISCHER IS POWERING ITS 2022 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT THROUGH ITS VERY OWN BALCONY SOLAR POWER SYSTEM. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY NEWS FROM HAMBURG: FROM NOW ON, ALL NATIONAL CINEMA CAMPAIGNS WILL ALSO BE PLAYED OUT IN A CLIMATE-NEUTRAL MANNER.
Hamburg, October 23, 2023 – Once again Weischer has combined its sustainability report with an environmentally friendly surprise: After printing all of the pages of the report on old cinema and advertising posters last year, the 2022 sustainability report now appears exclusively in digital format. It is only accessible via a landing page powered by a small photovoltaic system located on a company balcony. To keep energy consumption as low as possible, the web design has been highly comprised, featuring few colors, photos, and pixels. However, with the company’s own balcony solar power system, it is possible that the sustainability report may be temporarily offline during extended periods of bad weather.
“Our company has taken sustainability very seriously for many years,” says Moritz Weischer, CMO at Weischer. “Therefore, we also want to be a source of inspiration and ideas. With the first solar-powered sustainability report, we aim to further reduce our energy consumption and also stimulate thought.”
To highlight Weischer’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions, another step is being taken. From now on, all national cinema campaigns processed through the media company will be climate-neutral. Using the product Weischer.Green, the emissions of each individual campaign play-out are calculated in detail and offset through investments in climate protection projects. Weischer will be covering the costs for this. “For two years, we have been offering climate-neutralized campaign delivery in the OOH segment. The results have convinced clients and partners,” says Stephan Dahm, Chief Commercial Officer at Weischer. “Expanding into cinema is the next logical step.” Weischer.Green is TÜV-certified as a climate-neutral service offering.
As shown in the 2022 sustainability report, the entire company now operates climate-neutrally. For the past year, 702 tons of CO2 were offset through investments in high-quality forest projects. The emissions were significantly higher than the previous year (2022: 420 tons), primarily due to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the resurgence of the marketing business, there was a substantial increase in energy consumption.
“Therefore, we will also be focused on reducing the company’s own carbon footprint in the future,” emphasizes Moritz Weischer. “Sustainability will become an important part of all our business decisions.” This includes, for example, a new e-mobility policy, resource-efficient digitization projects, longer IT hardware usage cycles, and consumption optimization at office locations.
